The web communications revolution has provided many unprecedented opportunities for commerce – and unfortunately, quite a few opportunities for swindlers to prey on the gullible. This is just as true for debt consolidation as for anything else. Here are some debt consolidation scams to stay away from:

1. “Free Debt Consolidation Services”

Why are these guys doing it for free? How are they making money? Do be aware, though, that cheap debt consolidation services are not always a rip-off, although it would be a good idea to take a second look at anything that sounds too good to be true.

2. Consolidate Your Debts Using Free Government Grants

Yeah, right. The woods are thick with companies that offer information about “free government grants”. Haven’t you heard? Uncle Sam is giving away money like candy (which explains our high taxes!). And you can use this money any way you like – for example, to consolidate your debts. It’s true that the government gives loads of grant money, but I have yet to hear of a Citizen Lifestyle Enhancement Fund. It’s not easy to qualify for government grants, you have to spend the money for a particular purpose, and using it to consolidate your bills might just win you a free bonus – a five-year vacation at the Club Fed.

3. “No Repayment Necessary”

I don’t quite know quite why I included this one, except for entertainment value – if you can read then you’re probably too smart to fall for it. Anyway, here goes: Did you know that banking laws prohibit the charging of interest, and that the Supreme Court has backed this up with several decisions? You can borrow money, fail to pay it back, and then retain a smooth attorney to get you out of paying it back – after all, they had no legal right to lend you the money. Would you like to know how? Well, for the low, low price of $69.95…

If you fall for this one then I’ve got some swampland in Florida I’d like to sell you sight unseen. Oh, and by the way, even if banking law DID prohibit the charging of interest, you’d still have to pay back the principal.

Most debt consolidation swindles are see-through because they aim to take advantage of somebody in financial and emotional distress. As P.T. Barnum said, “There’s a sucker born every minute”.

While it may appear fairly simple to work up a new equity loan, there are things that you must look at to avoid equity scams. Actually, plenty of the things that you’ll see here are not explored often. Before you enter into your loan arrangement, please investigate this…

I want to point out that most lenders on the equity loan marketplace are legitimate lenders; though, several lenders are taking advantage of people facing financial hardships. These corrupt lenders grant sweet-sounding loans, yet fail to advise the borrower about concealed costs or balloon charges. Concealed expenses are regularly stripped from loans, since the APR is a supposed safety net to the borrower that weeds out concealed expenses. Abusive lending practices range from equity stripping and loan flipping to hiding loan conditions and packing a loan with excess charges.

Equity Stripping is one of the leading scams on the loan marketplace. Lenders will attempt to relieve you of your hard earned money by stripping the majority of the equity from your house. They will in fact strip you of your home after you default on the loan. The lenders engaging in equity stripping will routinely present to borrowers (Wow, what a deal!) deals, leading you to be certain that you are saving money. As a result, once the borrower consents to the legal contract, the lender will show new costs, expensive interest, and other costs that puts weight on the borrower, until he or she breaks and fails to make payments on the mortgage. The lender then repossesses the home, disposing of the home for cash while the borrower is left homeless with a questionable future.

Therefore, the Federal government has provided the information to help borrowers avoid losing their equity. Since equity stripping is becoming a huge industry, the Fed’s urge homeowners to lookout for equity stripping, as well as being aware of lenders that are providing loans that reach beyond your income. Signs of the scam is when a lender says it’s fine to exaggerate your personal earnings. The lender may sway you to create a loan with monthly payments that are too high for your cash flow. The loan is authorized, because the lender reports your salary as higher than it truly is.

The feds also urge borrowers to remain conscious of loan flipping, which is the process of switching loans frequently and asking for larger amounts of money on each refinance applied. Loan flipping behaves this way: When a customer falls behind on a loan, the lender offers to renew the loan and take care of any missing payments. A number of lending companies are refinancing loans persistently in a short period of time.

You will additionally want to watch out for PMI, which is personal mortgage insurance, which is a requirement; although, a few lenders try to charge for further coverage that is not needed. Therefore, homeowners, especially low income families, should read the the whole story of any loan issued meticulously.

If a lender is pushing you to sign a agreement, you will need to locate another lender, because pressuring borrowers is a dependable warning that the lender is doing something unscrupulous.

In spite of everything, the final voice for handling house equity scams will be up to you. Use the information in this article to find the best course for addressing your funds and you will enjoy your home with few worries.

Whether you are a young adult taking your first steps toward financial independence, or have recently experienced a major life change, such as divorce or the death of a spouse, that requires you to become financially independent, there are many helpful steps that you can take.

Here are a few that I have learned along the way:

1. Finding ways to save is often easier than finding ways to earn more.

      a. Sell anything you absolutely don’t need. Use the income to pay of other debts and lower monthly expenses, or put it in a savings account and let it earn interest.

b. Plan meals before going grocery shopping. Take advantage of coupons (but only on item you would have purchased anyway). If possible, grow some of your own vegetables. It’s a great family project and can save a lot of money.

c. Get information on any government grants or assistance programs you may qualify for. Now is not the time to let your pride get in your way. Make your tax dollars work for you.

2. Find creative ways to earn extra cash.

a. If you were a long-time homemaker, make a list of the things you did each day; cooking, cleaning, budgeting, childcare, etc. You’d be surprised how many jobs you qualify for. Pick up a second job for awhile until you are more financially stable.

b. Cash in items like aluminum cans. You’ll be surprised at how much extra this can bring in.

c. Use your talents! Small crafts are fun to make and can bring in extra cash at flea markets.

d. Search the internet for at-home money making ideas. Be careful not to make any big investments. There are plenty of scams. Do your homework.

3. Establish your own credit as soon as possible.

a. Build credit in your own name. But Beware! This can backfire if you’re not careful. Apply for a credit card to help you get started. Only charge what you have the cash to pay for. Set the cash aside and pay off the balance each month.

b. Invest whatever you can, whenever you can. Even small amounts grow. Watch for opportunities. I was able to acquire a small, rundown hobby farm which increased in value almost $200,000 in ten years.

4. Believe in yourself! Better yourself!

a. It’s never too late for changes. Go back to college, change your career, or just shoot for that promotion.

b. Set realistic goals. The smallest success can change your whole outlook on things.

c. If you have children, make success a family experience. Work together. Plan small rewards for your efforts. You’ll be surprised at some of the great ideas they have.

For most of us, financial independence doesn’t happen overnight unless you’re a lucky lottery winner. Be patient. Be creative. Be successful!

How would you like to obtain a grant for investing in real estate? You can, and it may be easier than you may think!

There are several types of grant for investing in real estate. Which ones you choose to apply for depend on the types of properties you are interested in purchasing.

If you are looking to purchase your first single family home, you may qualify for a grant from the federal government, or special financing from HUD (Department of Housing and Urban Development). In addition, many state and local governments have programs that allow you to apply for a grant for investing in real estate, and these may be used for buying your first home.

Another type of grant for investing in real estate is for those who prefer to invest in residential income property. This type of grant, which really isn’t a grant at all, supplements a portion of your tenant’s rent through a voucher system known as HUD’s “Section 8” program. Since the money is paid by the federal government directly into your bank account each month, getting a tenant in this program is just like getting a monthly grant from Uncle Sam!

A third type of grant for investing in real estate is for those who prefer investing in specific kinds of commercial property that meets special or unique needs. For instance, there are federal grants available for the construction of health care facilities and facilities that serve the needs of the handicapped or underprivileged.

Finally, you may be able to qualify for a grant for investing in real estate if you are a woman or a minority. The government has many different grant programs available for people in various groups who want to start or grow a business, and your real estate investing activities may qualify as a business.

To sum up, there are many reasons for the government to financially support the real estate investing efforts of individuals engaged in various types of investing. Your activities may fall within the parameters of some government program, allowing you to qualify for a grant for investing in real estate. It may pay to do a little investigating to find out what programs, if any, you may qualify for.

Now, go make more offers!

Persons in debt can benefit greatly with a debt relief program designed specifically for their individual circumstances. There really is no such thing as the one plan that can help each person because condition and circumstance can vary greatly. Finding a debt relief program specifically for your needs is important so you can get out of debt in a timely manner.

In order to avoid face-to-face meetings, whether because of time constraints or the feeling of being embarrassed, many people seek a debt relief program on the internet. While there are many ethical companies operating online, there are a few things to remember when you are considering a program online. First, there is no identification requirement to establish a website or to obtain a domain name. Therefore, anyone with a computer can buy a name and set up a website offering a debt relief program.

Most online advertisers do not require identification for advertisements placed other than the billing information. Unless charges on a credit or debit card are disputed, no one checks the background of internet sites offering a debt relief program and many sites offer no insight as to who is in charge.

Common debt relief scams

Many companies offer debt relief scams looking to take advantage of someone else’s misery to make money. Promising to reduce personal debt while keeping creditors at bay, they carry out their debt relief scams on those who can least afford to lose their money.

Some debt relief scams are outright deceptive, who take money from unsuspecting people and never pay a dime to creditors so that the person is out of money and the creditors are still looking for payments. They will usually set up a fake storefront or internet portal that vanishes almost as fast as it was started. Names change almost every week and the ones who responsible for these scams do their best to remain anonymous.

Normally, debt relief scams will accept payments only in the form of cash or money order and usually refuse debit or credit cards due their tracking capabilities. They push to get the money in cash by saying that with the business they are in dealing in currency allows them to reduce costs as well as keep their service fees as minimum as possible.

With some debt relief scams they will actually contact creditors and inform them they are working on your behalf and negotiate lower payments. You will also have the benefit of making one payment to them and in turn they will send payments to your creditors. However, their service fees can be ridiculously high and sometimes even as high as 50 percent of your monthly payment.

While your debt is being reduced, the debt relief scam company is getting rich by charging you as much as all of the combined creditors are receiving. For example, if you have 10 creditors and are paying the scam company $200 per month, the company is keeping $100 for itself while your creditors are receiving $10 each per month. Therefore, depending on the total debt amount, it can take a long time to pay off the bills.

Another of the big debt relief scams involves offering to sell you information about where to go for government grants to get debt relief. When you are visiting sites of the US government or state governments, it soon becomes apparent that there is no such thing as a free lunch from the government. There are no such things as free government grants to help with your personal debt. The company is selling you a CD and a monthly subscription for you to use the information on the CD to apply for grants that you most likely will not qualify to receive.

Understand who you are dealing with

Many online companies use a PO Box for mailing purposes to help maintain their personal privacy, but legal companies will not have any problem in supplying a physical address to their potential customers. Therefore, those companies offering a debt relief program that refuse to give anything other than a PO Box may not be completely honest. There should also be contact information readily available on the site, together with a name, email address, and phone number.

With that information unavailable, you cannot tell who you are doing business with and entering into a debt relief program on blind faith because of what is presented on a web site is definitely not the smartest move. When you think about it, they are asking you to send money to an unknown person at an unknown location on the promise to provide services. Being unwilling to supply specific information should make you question whether the company can or will provide the service they promise.

The rise in bogus business opportunities as well as work at home scams have become far too large of a concern for law enforcement to ignore. Federal and state task forces are now performing law enforcement sweeps that target phony Internet businesses and scams. There have been twenty-three fraud convictions and twenty-five individual arrests in which scam artists are being sentenced to more than 160 years in prison. Ongoing investigations as well as court hearings are still involved in this ongoing battle.

Scam Types

There are numerous scams and fraudulent businesses on the Internet. Programs such as online surveys, free government grants programs, mystery shopper positions and data entry jobs were all scams. The company coastal vacation has numerous fraud sites appear causing damage to their company name. Scam artists were portraying coastal directors and creating uncanny sales pitches to lure customers in for the scam. The scam artists would tell the victim to send a check for X amount of money and would take the check and disappear. Customers were left to lose the money, vacation offers and trust of online businesses.

The Victims

Both customers looking for a vacation deal as well as those looking for a work at home business have been scam victims. For those who have had to learn the hard way to Internet safety, it’s a difficult lesson. For those of us who have not been scam victims there are tips to prevent this from occurring to you or anyone you know.

Prevention Tips

Never send money upfront without understanding a businesses background. Contact the Better Business Bureau and see if the company is listed. If not put in a request to have them inspected. Do some personal research to see of you can find when and where a company was formed and if they are in fact legitimate. Do not provide a company with your social security number or bank account information. With the rise in identity theft you have to be very cautious when giving out any personal details. Always search for trustworthy proof of a company’s background prior to giving out any of the above personal details.

Stopping Scams And Fraud

Prevention is the key to stopping scams such as the coastal vacation scans. Unfortunately any time there is a high demand product that draws in customers, scam artists follow right behind. With the help of law enforcement tracking in bringing down these scam artists and faux Internet businesses we are making progress. Making ourselves as well as those around us aware of the necessary precautions for Internet safety is the other half of the solution. You can never be too precautions about who you give your money or information to. Think of the story of the big bad wolf. He looked an awful lot like grandma behind those glasses and bonnet. Scam artists are just like a wolf in a disguise. We have to look past the disguise and search deeper for what really lies beneath it all to protect ourselves from getting bitten.

Caught your attention, did I not? Now that I have it, why don’t we take a look at the subject of miracle cures.

Being the curious type, I wondered what was the best way to find a miracle cure for diabetes? I suppose that having the proper scientific pedigree would be a good start. But, this being the 21st century, I opted for the internet, instead. Being an optimist, I queried for miracle cures for diabetes using a Google search. Lo and behold, 104,000 items came up. Of course, to be honest, that did include “miracle cure” and “diabetes.” Still, if even only 1% of the hits happened to be miracle cures for diabetes, I was off to a pretty good start.

I have to be honest, aside from the good news of there actually being cures for diabetes floating around, the thought of all the money being wasted on government grants and donations for research came to mind, also. Those quack scientists are sure taking gullible folks like you and me for a ride, aren’t they?

So, having discovered, I thought that I might as well click on a few of these discoveries and see just what they actually were. Well, the first one I took a look at happened to be a person who had been a “borderline” diabetic until he cured himself. Borderline? Does that equate to pre-diabetes?

If you go to You Tube, there will also be testimonials about cures for diabetes. One even has a rather well known actress.

The fact of the matter is, most of the things I actually checked out seemed to deal with controlling type 2 diabetes. Some, unfortunately, even made claims of having people getting of their insulin regime. To be honest, I did not go to each and everyone of the 104,000 hits for the question.

What I did see in most of those I did look at, in fact all of them that I looked at, was that they were talking about managing your diabetes. That is something diabetics know about.

Under the Google search, I did come up with following from our friends at Health Canada:

Be skeptical: if it looks too good to be true, it probably is! There is no pill, herb or “all natural” health product that will miraculously cure diabetes.

Here are some tips on spotting scams:

Beware of ads that promise too much. Think twice before buying a product that claims it can do it all – stabilize blood sugar, end the need for insulin, regenerate the pancreas, reduce cholesterol, and cause easy weight loss.

Steer clear of a product that claims to be a “scientific breakthrough”. Researchers around the world are racing to find better treatments for diabetes, so genuine scientific discoveries make frontpage news. If the first or only place you learn about a new treatment is through an advertisement on the Internet, be suspicious.

Keep your guard up when ads mention scientific evidence. Ads that are long on technical jargon may be short on proof. The presence of a doctor in an ad is no guarantee the product works. Scam artists have been known to dress models to look like experts.

Don’t be swayed by a questionable “success story” or so-called “patient testimonial”. Despite what the company claims, there’s no guarantee that “John Doe of Hometown, Canada” has achieved the advertised results – or is even a real person.

A money-back guarantee is no proof that a product works. Scam artists who offer a guarantee have been known to take the money and run.

To be honest, in one way or the other, we are all searching for that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Until we find it, though, it would be best if we kept our jobs. Your long term health is the issue.

Some programs may be wonderful for managing your diabetes. On the other hand, some may put you at risk. If you see something that catches your fancy, please, discuss it with your health care professional.

Since 2002, the federal government has been developing and implementing Grants.gov as a collaborative cross-government program focused on streamlining grants management for the Federal grant community.

Grants.gov is the one-stop-shop Website to apply for more than $400 billion in Federal grants.

Managed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Grants.gov is one of the 24 E-Government initiatives operating under the governance of the Office of Management and the Budget (OMB). The Website centralizes grant information and electronic submission for more than 1,000 grant programs across the Federal government.

Business grants could be one of the most important financial tools that nearly all businesses would need. They may not be the single most significant support businesses could have, but they can get definitely help you start the business right.

Business grants refer to a particular amount of money that is being granted by the government to a particular business. Some people may have thought of it as a “free financial support” from the government, but they are not. That is because there is an equivalent effort, time, and sweat entailed when requesting for grants.

Moreover, not all businesses can avail of business grants. Even if the government provides business grants to support businesses, certain qualifications are required prior to the approval of the business grants.

Primarily, your business should be a not-for-profit organization or it should include an expansion of a new knowledge or technology. If your business does not fall under these categories, you are not qualified for a business grant.

However, there are some instances that the government may award business grants if your business can prove that it can develop a new technology for economic advancement or if you can meet the requirements. You need to accomplish all the prerequisites at an agreed period to get the business grant. If in case you failed to meet the deadline, your request for a business grant will not be approved.

Secondly, your business should have a business plan. If you think you can qualify for business grants, you should consider having a business plan as well.

Getting the first stage of the application is just the start of your journey. You need to create a business plan in order to guarantee the government that you really intend to develop your business and help the economy. In this way, you can show them that your business aims to develop a knowledge that will boost the country’s economy.

What most unsuccessful businesses failed to realize is that business plans are extremely important when establishing a business. Statistical reports show that more than 85% of unsuccessful businesses do not have business plans.

************************************

Did you know?

Applying at Grants.gov can reduce your costs and the time required to find government grant opportunities and process your application. The site provides access to multiple grantors and reduces paperwork.

By downloading a grant application package, you can view it offline, giving you the flexibility to complete the application when and where you want.

************************************

The most common problem is that businesses only create business plans to reach their primary goal, that is, to increase their finances. What they do not know is that businesses need business plans to create an effective line of attack. Plus, these also serve as a gauge of the present achievement.

So if you want to obtain a business grant, you must create a business plan. In this way, the government can tell if you really have a strong marketing strategy and if you intend to boost the economy as much as you want to increase your finances.

Here are some guides on how to create a well written, technically and analytically superb business plan.

1. Keep it short and precise

Too much information may only bring more harm than good. When it comes to business plans, investors or the government itself would want a precise and brief explanation of your business strategy. Elaborating them more with extra words may only bore them.

Then again, do not create a business plan that lacks the essential information that the government needs in order to give you your business grant. Too little information will also put your business on the bad side.

The key point here is to provide the most important facts and state them in a straight and clear-cut manner.

2. Provide proofs

Statistical data and documentations do not just put credible facts on your business plan but can also facilitate your request for business grants. The government would most likely want to see solid information attested by mentioning the primary source of data or through citations or documentation.

It would be even better if you can provide graphical representation of all information in order to provide a more realistic and visual effect.

3. Keep it complete

Never pass a business plan that lacks one of the important parts. See to it that you have all the necessary portions intact before submitting them. Your business plan should always have the proper “pagination,” contact information, and contents and cover page.

4. Keep it real

If you are really aiming for a business grant, do not make it as an excuse to create falsified information. Keep in mind that the government or any other investor will eventually find it out.

Hence, it is best to be reasonable, sincere, realistic, and consistent with your data.

Indeed, business plans may not be the single most important tool to achieve business grants. However, having a well-written business plan can put you on top of the other businesses.

There is government help available for businesses and corporations seeking debt relief.  Another option offered by the government is debt consolidation loans; however these must be paid back.  Consumer credit services which will help you pay off your bills in a timely manner are recommended by the federal government, because they help you to consolidate your bills. Consumer credit services can also call your creditors on your behalf to negotiate a repayment plan that works for you.  After the initial consultation they also help you see what in your financial behaviour needs to be changed to keep your finances organized for the long term.

A warning listed on the debt help page on a government website warns people to beware of the dangers involved in seeking financial help through consumer credit counselling services.  Although many of these services claim to be “non-profit” organisations, that doesn’t necessarily mean that there are no costs involved. Some of these companies charge very large fees and are not reputable.  Be sure to thoroughly research the organization prior to doing business with them.  One such place to find out is a consumer credit counselling company has had any claims or complaints against them is your local Better Business Bureau.

There is not easy way out of paying off bad credit debt. You may be enticed by ads on the television, internet, or in magazine articles about obtaining government grants. These are scams by people wanting money for themselves and they have no intention of giving you something for nothing to pay off your debt. The chances of any one person promising you free money to you in order to repay loans or debt is false.

Struggling to come up with a monthly plan that will ease your debts? Then check out the web site for debt relief run by the Government where you will find agencies that can help. Many organizations, from colleges to the armed forces, have free advisors available to deal with debt problems. For businesses, state aid is available, too. They don’t want to see companies go under and have grants and reasonable loans available.

It is unfortunate that there is not a way to completely make debt disappear that may poorly reflect upon your overall credit score. There are several services that can be used to aide you in reducing your debt such as law firms, consolidation loans, and credit counselling facilities. However, all of these resources will never erase the debt from your credit history.
