There are many people who could not begin their business without the assistance of Government grants. Yes, there grants are something that really does exist to help business owners as well as new businesses. How can you get one for your business. Well that is the tricky part.
You must begin your quest for a government grant with a large decision. Decide what type of business you are going to want to start. If you already have a business what type of business is it? You will want to look for grants that pertain to your business. There are millions if not billions of government grants and if you have no idea what direction you are leaning with your business it could take a very long time to go through them all much less find the grant for you!
Next you have to follow up with research. I don’t mean picking up one of those books that tells you you can get thousands of dollars in grants I mean “real” research. Sure read one of those books it couldn’t hurt but also use on-line research on government grants, other business owner’s past experience with grants, and any other information you can dig up. The library can offer a vast number of books dealing with this type subject and even the librarian might be able to help you. After all what do you think the library is? That is right it is a business. Those walls of books were probably built and furnished with a government grant.
Once you think you have found the grant that you are going to need look over the application and guidelines. Make sure that you fall into all categories of the guidelines for qualification unless it specifies that you only have to qualify for a certain number of their criteria. There is no need to waste time applying for something that you don’t even qualify for. These things take time to process and the news get back to you as it is. Make sure you understand the grant. If you have questions ask them before you apply.
Now with all questions answered and high hopes you are ready to actually fill out and submit your application. The application process takes time. Do not expect an answer within the next few days. You are not going to have it! Be patient. You will hear from the grant when everything has been looked over and you have been considered as a possible business to help or one to completely forgot even filled out the application. You will get a reply even if you are not going to get the grant. They should supply you with the reason you were denied their help. If you should be rejected do not let that get in the way of you pursuing help from government grants.
If you fail the first time around you may have to regroup. This is not too bad as long as you keep all the research that you did the first time around. Look back over your research and find a grant similar to the one you applied but not as strict on the area where you were denied. Many times grant criteria is very strict and if you fall outside of the guidelines by an inch you are rejected another grant though similar may allow a bit more than inches before they toss your application out. Follow this process until you run out of grants or you have a check in hand to begin that dream business. One or the other will happen if you are persistent!
